Crowns

Crowns are an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it stronger and giving it the shape and appearance of a natural tooth. It can be made of Gold, Porcelain bonded to metal or all Porcelain.

It is sometimes called a “cap”. A crown is often the treatment of choice once a tooth or filling has fractured or show signs of weakness by eliciting hairline cracks especially if heavily filled.

Dentists often recommend crowning a tooth following root canal treatment, as this can otherwise leave the tooth vulnerable to fracture.
