Porcelain Crowns

A crown or cap is a dental restoration that is especially made to help protect and improve the look of teeth. Crowns are made of Gold, porcelain fused to metal, all porcelain and now Zirconia fused to porcelain. Crowns are very strong and it can be confusing choosing which type of crown is you want, our cosmetic dentists will help plan your case and find out which crown type is best for you.

How do crowns work?

When a tooth has been root filled, broken down, discoloured, misaligned and fragile, a crown is the best option to restore the tooth to full health. If a tooth is very broken down, sometimes a post is needed to give more support for the crown in the mouth. The tooth is shaped by the dentist and impressions taken to replicate the tooth for the dental technician. A prototype crown is placed on the tooth, whilst the new crown is constructed. The new crown is normally fitted after 10-14 days, with a strong bonding agent. The crown is then ready to use and should to cleaned and looked after as all other teeth.
