Dermal Fillers
Despite a healthy and balanced lifestyle, regular exercise and a good skincare regime, the inevitable effects of ageing occur with time, pollutants, sunlight, smoking, hormones, etc, As a consequence, your skin loses its volume and deep lines or grooves result.
Dermal fillers can be injected very tenderly and artistically into the skin to restore this lost volume giving you a healthy young appearance.
The clear-like gel used is naturally integrated into the tissue, lifting up and smoothing out wrinkles and deep grooves. It is completely pain free as regular dental blocks are given and the results are instantaneous! Better still, they get even more desirable within 2-3 weeks and can last usually between 8-12 months.
They are commonly used for nose to mouth grooves; restoring lip volume, lip border definition, and smokers lines above the lips; crows feet (laughter lines), and deep worry lines between the eyebrows. Having received the highly skilled training and experience, the exciting use of dermal fillers can now also allow Sarita to disguise facial scars, fill out cheek depressions, lift the lines at the corners of your mouth, carry out eyebrow lifts and even restore or reshape nose defects!

What is a dermal filler and its benefits?
A dermal filler is a smooth clear gel that is injected under the skin to lift out and smooth wrinkles, lines or folds. The filler restores the volume that has been lost over time and with sunlight, pollution, hormones, smoking, etc. It can also be used to artistically sculpt and alter or enhance the shape of certain aspects of the face in a soft, natural way and also tighten sun-damaged skin or skin that has lost its elasticity, depending on the type of filler used which is chosen specific to your needs. The results are instant and improve even further over the few weeks after placement as the skin absorbs water. It provides a smooth, natural look and feel –so everyone will notice you look well but not necessarily know what you’ve had done!
Which type of filler is used and why?
I prefer to use the hyaluronic acid (HA) range of fillers since HA is a substance found naturally within the skin, so I am replacing like for like. It is a safe and natural way to replace the support structure that has been lost and it helps to hydrate the skin as well as add volume promoting softness and fullness. The versatility of products available permit the correct choice of filler for the area being treated and for the desired effect.
Which areas can dermal fillers be placed?
Commonly nose to mouth lines, lips, in heavy worry lines both in forehead and in between the brows, around the eyes and mouth. Experience allows me to place filler in the cheeks, chin, nose, to lift eyebrows, in the lower jaw, under the eyes, soften scars and also in the skin of the face, neck, hands and chest.
What is involved in the procedure?
After the area has been anaesthetised for comfort and disinfected to minimize any risk of infection, the appropriate filler for the area being treated is injected artistically and gently under the skin to achieve the desired effect. The gel is flowed softly and easily into the skin for a natural yet enhanced look and feel.
How long will the procedure take?
The full consultation is carried out thoroughly which can take about 30 mins. The injection procedure takes between 15-30 mins depending on the type and number of areas being treated. The whole procedure is tailored for your comfort and desires.
Is it painful?
No. The smooth consistency of the gels allows for the gentle flow of the filler under the skin. Some of the products available also contain a small percentage of lidocaine (local anaesthetic) which helps to complement the precise, artistic and comfortable injection technique I employ for your comfort. The area is routinely anaesthetized though not always depending on your requirements/wishes and I ensure the entire process will be painless and enjoyable.
What will I look like after treatment?
Great! You will see the desired effects instantaneously. There will be some swelling and slight redness after the procedure and on occasions, though rarely, there may be slight bruising but with the correct after care this resolves very soon after treatment.
When will I see the effects?
Immediately. And the great thing is, the results get even better over the course of the few weeks after treatment! You’ll love how you look and how you feel!
Will I look natural?
Yes. My knowledge, experience and training allows me to keep your results very natural. I minimise any loss of natural facial expression and avoid an artificial look by injecting precisely, effectively yet subtly; and importantly to your specifications. I will design your treatment plan specific to your needs. The ‘frozen, expressionless’ look that is undesirable for many is a sign of inexperience and over treatment. This is where experience and knowledge counts and I have many years of expertise as well as a thorough understanding of the materials, techniques and anatomy of the face. I assist in the training of fellow medical professionals in the techniques that enable the natural effect to be achieved.
How long do the effects last?
You enjoy the benefits usually between 6-12 months depending on your lifestyle, age, quality of skin structure, your general health, how much filler is placed, and the injection technique. The results are not permanent and the product is resorbed naturally by the body.
Do I need to know anything before treatment?
Yes. It is advisable not to take certain blood thinning medications a few days before treatment such as aspirin or other NSAIDS to reduce the risk of bleeding or bruising at the sites of injection. I will advise you accordingly at your consultation appointment.
What can I or can’t I do after treatment?
You will be given full post op care at your treatment visit and life can carry on as normal. However, I do ask that you do not touch the treated area or apply make up for 12-48 hours after treatment.. No facials/chemical skin peels/laser resurfacing treatments or sun beds are recommended initially and exposure to extreme temperatures should be avoided until any swelling or redness has subsided. Full aftercare and specific instructions for you will be given depending on the areas treated.
Will I need to take time off work?
No. You can have the appointment in your lunch hour and return back to your normal routine though there may be some slight redness and swelling depending on the area being treated. You will be asked to refrain from touching the treated area and applying any make up for 12-48 hours after. In the instance of any bruising, make up can then be used to camouflage after 12-48 hours.
Will I need a top up and how often?
Not always, though many patients enjoy the benefits and results from the treatment so they like to book touch up injections as well as repeat injections, when they see the effects of the filler wearing off, to maintain the way they look. This will be discussed at your complimentary review appointment. Touch up treatments can add to the duration of the filler but are not always necessary. I will advise you of the best after care for you.
What will happen if I choose not to have a top up?
Nothing. You will gradually look like you did before treatment when the effects have worn off. It is important to remember that the effects of ageing will continue with time as normal as will the changes to your skin structure from pollution, hormones, sunlight, lifestyle factors, etc. Your skin will change as it would normally according to these factors but you will not look any worse as a consequence of treatment if you choose not to have any further treatment.
Is there anyone who should not have dermal filler injections?
Yes, if you are:
- Pregnant or breast feeding
- Have certain blood clotting disorders
- On certain medications
- Have an infection at the proposed injection site
- Are prone to recurrent herpes eruptions (provisions can be made prior to treatment)
Your medical history will be discussed with you at the consultation to ensure you are a suitable candidate for treatment
Is it safe?
Yes, when carried out by a highly trained medical professional. There are no known long term consequences. I have been trained by one of the leading experts in facial rejuvenation in the UK and also my thorough training through dentistry allows me to have the excellent standard of knowledge of the anatomy of the head and neck minimising the incidence of any significant side effects. Hyaluronic acid is a non-animal product and so there is no need for patch testing as hypersensitivity is rare. It is a substance found naturally in our bodies and as the product is naturally broken down by the body, the results are not permanent. It has an excellent safety profile and HA is also used medically e.g for tissue engineering and eye surgery.
Can anyone inject me?
No. It is extremely important to do your research. Since dermal filler treatment is becoming more popular and in demand, more and more non-medical therapists are offering treatment and so it is vitally important to check the credentials of the treatment provider to ensure that they are:s
- suitably qualified medical professional with a high standard of training from a recognised training institute
- have professional/cosmetic insurance
- have a thorough knowledge of the face and neck
- have an experience of injecting
- have a sterile and private treatment room
- offer you a full consultation before treatment
- can demonstrate before and after photographs of their results
Are there any major side effects?
No, major side effects are rare when carried out by an experienced medical professional. Minor side effects include swelling, redness, bruising, lumps/bumps, itchiness, discolouration and tenderness over injection sites but these can be minimized by my gentle and precise injection technique and most can be camouflaged with make up. These effects, if they occur, usually last for only a few days after treatment. All skin injection procedures carry a risk of infection but these are extremely rare since I use a sterile environment and an aseptic technique approach is followed with the correct sterile and disinfection procedures.
Is this treatment affordable?
Yes. Non-surgical facial aesthetic options are by far cheaper and more cost effective than a surgical approach. I will discuss this fully with you along with our finance options prior to having any treatment. Consultation visits are free of charge where you will have an opportunity to discuss treatment in detail and address any queries. Costs can vary depending on the number and type of areas and start from £285. Discounts are available for more areas treated/syringes used and there are in-house benefits for you to enjoy. Please ring 01708853019 to arrange for your free consultation appointment.
Can I have dermal filler treatment with botox?
Yes you can. In some instances, a combination approach with botulinum toxin and dermal filler can be highly effective and produce dramatic results depending on the area and the cause of the wrinkle or groove. This will be discussed at the consultation and the appropriate treatment recommended for you.
Can I have dermal filler treatment with chemical peels or laser treatment?
Yes, as long as the skin has healed completely and the skin is back to normal (usually 4-6 weeks) otherwise an inflammatory response can be induced. Similarly, if you have a chemical peel or laser treatment on the skin after you have had dermal filler placed, there is a risk of causing a reaction on the skin where the filler has been injected. I will advise you accordingly upon consultation and decide on the best treatment plan for you.
